Internet Safety

We teach our children to be careful when using the internet. We encourage them to remember to make good choices when using computers and other devices in order to keep themselves safe online.

We use a cartoon which was created by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection agency (CEOPs). You can see the cartoon on YouTube by clicking here

The video refers to 'SID's Top Tips' which we also have clearly displayed in classrooms and elsewhere around our school. We ask the children to remember the 4 Top Tips to help them stay safe when using the internet:

Top Tip 1 : People you don’t know are strangers. They’re not always who they say they are.

Top Tip 2 : Be nice to people on the computer like you would in the playground.

Top Tip 3 : Keep your personal information private.

Top Tip 4 : If you ever get that ‘uh oh’ feeling, you should tell a grown-up you trust.

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year in over a hundred countries to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people
and inspire a national conversation.

Safer Internet Day is a fantastic opportunity to reflect as a family about how you can use the internet and technology safely, responsibly and positively. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, foster carer, aunt, uncle or older sibling – we can all play a role in empowering children to enjoy their time online!

We also hold information sessions for parents. It is important for all parents to learn about how children use the internet so they can carry on the discussion with their own children at home.

Our former Chair of Governors, Paul Hay - an Internet Safety expert, has provided further links to useful sites to learn more about Internet Safety:

Paul is also happy for parents to contact him with any questions you may have.

"Digital Parenting" magazine

An organisation called Parentzone have created a great magazine for parents to help them understand how young people use the internet and provide help.
