About the Eco-Schools Programme
Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life. Eco-Schools can help enhance the curriculum and get the whole school united behind something important.
Our mission is to make our school sustainable and to bring about behaviour change in our children and those connected to them so that good habits learned in school are followed through into homes and communities.
What’s more, by addressing environmental issues in school and reducing waste, we can save money, which can be reinvested elsewhere!
What will we be doing?
We will be following a seven-step process which will help us to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.
We have begun this process by starting to complete our Environmental Review of the school. We will be investigating what our school is doing well at and what areas might need to be worked on. This will help us to develop our Action Plan and choose which topics to focus on.
Plastic bottle recycling pilot
Greenredeem has provided our school with a reverse vending machine (RVM).
The machine will accept plastic drinks bottles only, and for every plastic bottle that is deposited in the machine, our school receives 5p.
During the project our school could collect up to 40,000 bottles and earn £2,000 funding!
Please deposit your bottles into the collection point bins around our school site.
