Starting School

Starting school is a huge milestone in every child's development. At Furze Platt Infant School, we are passionate about giving every child the best possible start to their school journey. We are committed to working with parents, families and other professionals and believe that with good preparation and encouragement, most children will settle in easily and happily at school.

Preparing your child to start school

We understand that all children develop at their own pace and when starting school some children need more help than others. Practising key skills at home before your child starts at FPIS will help them to feel emotionally and practically prepared, making their transition into school a happy and positive experience. Some skills will take time to master, so it is good to introduce them gradually as part of your child's daily routine.

September 2025 Admissions - Early Years ONLY

Induction Mornings

Children starting school in Early Years in September 2025 will be invited to an Induction Morning session in school. Dates for this years induction mornings are Monday 23rd, Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th June.  There will be an opportunity to meet their new class teacher and for the children and parents to spend time in their new classroom with their new classmates.  Invitations will be sent out in early June, as soon as class lists are finalised.

School Visits

We will be offering school visit appointments on Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Monday 8th September.  These will consist of a 20-minute appointment in school for parents and their child to meet on a 1:1 basis with their new class teacher.

Starting school

Our Early Years children's first day at school will be Tuesday 9th September.  We want to make sure that your child’s start to school life is a happy and positive one and therefore there will be a gradual increase in school hours during the first few weeks (please see table below) to help them settle in and become familiar with daily routines.
